About SMM

The Spanish Media Monitor (SMM) observatory is a research initiative that studies how political information is produced and represented in Spanish television news. Our goal is to provide reliable, data-driven insight into the ways media institutions shape public perception and democratic debate.

Our Mission

SMM aims to advance the understanding of political communication in Spain by combining computational methods, media analysis, and economic theory. We use large-scale data collection and artificial intelligence tools to systematically measure coverage, sentiment, and bias across leading national TV channels.

Our Approach

The project continuously monitors news programs from major Spanish broadcasters. Through automated transcription, topic modeling, and sentiment detection, we build time series of political exposure and evaluate patterns in media polarization and attention. Each metric is presented transparently through interactive dashboards that allow users to explore trends in coverage and framing.
