Political Tone Analysis

This section studies how Spanish television channels portray political actors and parties over time. Using large language models to classify tone (negative, neutral, or positive), we estimate systematic differences in sentiment across outlets and political affiliations.

Monthly Regression Results

The interactive graph below shows regression coefficients estimated from channel-specific models (without a constant) for each party’s tone measure. Select a political party from the dropdown menu to view how average tone varies across channels and months. Shaded regions display 95% confidence intervals.

Interpretation

Positive coefficients indicate that a channel’s coverage of a given party is, on average, more favorable than the baseline across the sample period, while negative values reflect more critical tone. This analysis helps identify both structural differences and temporal shifts in media bias.
